Fanned Frame

For this tutorial you will need:

Ulead Art texture

Paint Engine

Fanned Frame mask ~ here (save to your masks folder)

Image - download the one I used ~ here

This is what we should end up with :)

Ok - lets get started!

1. Open up a new image 300 x 300 (transparent) call it background, then add a new layer, call this layer Gold.

2. Flood fill your image with white, then add Ulead Art Texture Palette #5, and then the following settings

3. Add mask to this layer open masks>load from disc>fanned frame. Delete the mask, and click yes when asked if you want to merge the layers.

4. Add new raster layer, call it pic. Using the selection tool (rectangle) draw a rectangle around the same size as the inner rectangle of your mask frame, then flood fill the rectangle with white.

5. Use the deformation tool to get the rectangle you just made the same shape and size as your inner frame - for corners that need to be reshaped hold down the shift key while resizing. Deselect.

6. Use the magic wand to click the centre of your white rectangle, while still selected, add a raster layer call it inner frame. Set this image aside for a minute - do not deselect.

7. Open the picture you want to use in your frame, and copy it. Close this image. Reopen your frame and paste into selection. If you use my image you'll notice that the lady adds a little weight :) GOOD! LOL

8. Turn the visibility OFF on your background and gold layer and merge visible. Move your background layer under your Gold layer.

9. Make your background layer active and choose a colour for your background. I used #EB8B30 - deselect everything and flood fill your background layer with this colour. Make all layers visible again.

10. Add a symmetrical border of 5, select with magic wand and apply Ulead Art Texture same settings as before. Do not deselect.

11. Add a drop shadow

12. Repeat drop shadow using -2 vertical and horizontal.

13. While still selected, invert and add a cutout

14. Repeat -2 vertical and horizontal. Deselect.

15. Add a symmetrical border of 25 (using your backgrounds colour NOT white) and add Paint Engine

16. Repeat Paint Engine only using the Uphill type. Keep selected and invert. Add cutouts and drop shadows as in 11 & 13.

17. Add symmetrical border of 5, add Ulead Art Texture, same settings as 2, keep selected and invert - add cutouts and drop shadows as in 11 & 13 again.

That's it!

This also makes a really nice stationery - skip the steps to make the frame and instead resize your image by 50%. Add non-symmetrical borders of 5 on top, left and bottom, and 800 right. Click your new border on the right with your magic wand and add a new raster layer. Flood fill your new layer with your background colour (I actually made a copy of the background layer of the fanned frame and flood filled with that). Invert and add drop shadows to your frame pic same as before.
