This is what we will be making ... as you can see there are 2 variations. Both have been resized for faster loading, but you can see the full size examples by clicking here

OK, lets get started :)

1. Open your image, press shift D to duplicate and close your original. Open your gold tile and minimize on your desktop

2. Add a symmetrical border of 4 (these borders can be any colour), click with magic wand using the settings below and flood fill with your gold tile. Do not deselect

3. Invert your selection and add the following cutout - depending on the image you use, you may want to add the cutout twice. Deselect

4. Add another symmetrical border of 4, click with magic wand and flood fill with your gold tile. Go to effects>texture effects>blinds and apply the following settings. Reapply your blinds effect with horizontal unchecked. Deselect

5. Add another symmetrical border of 4, click with magic wand and fill with gold. Deselect.

6. Now go to selections>select all and apply, go to selections>modify>contract and type in 12. Invert your selection and apply the following inner bevel. Do not deselect

7. Go to effects>sharpen>unsharp mask and apply the following settings TWICE. Deselect

8. Add a symmetrical black border of 40. Click with magic wand. Add a raster layer and flood fill with gold. Do not deselect

9. Go to masks>load from disc and locate your lacy edge mask - your dialogue box should look like below. Click load, then click delete, and answer yes. Sharpen, then deselect

10. Turn the visibility of your top layers off (you will actually have 3 layers now). Click on your black border with your magic wand. Turn the visibility of your top layers back on. Activate your top layer and merge visible. Do not deselect

11. Invert your selection and add the following drop shadow. Repeat with minus values. Deselect

13. Add a symmetrical border of 4 (these borders can be any colour), click with magic wand using the settings we used before and flood fill with your gold tile. Deselect

14. Add another symmetrical border of 4, click with magic wand and flood fill with your gold tile. Go to effects>texture effects>blinds and apply the same settings we used before. Reapply your blinds effect with horizontal unchecked. Deselect

15. Add another symmetrical border of 4, click with magic wand and fill with gold. Deselect.

16. Now go to selections>select all and apply, go to selections>modify>contract and type in 12. Invert your selection and apply the same inner bevel we did before. Do not deselect

17. Go to effects>sharpen>unsharp mask and apply the same settings we did before TWICE. Deselect if you used black as your background - BUT if you used gold, invert your selection and add the following cutout
