This tut was the result of my trying to make a frame I thought suitable for a photo of my daughter Nicole. Coley was killed instantly in a car accident on November 24, 2001. If you'd like to see the results of that frame and find out a little about my angel, please click here
OK - lets get started
1. Open the graphic you intend to frame, press shift D to duplicate and close your original
2. Choose 2 complimentary colours from your graphic - one dark as your foreground colour, and one light as your background colour - I used #9A5507 as my dark colour and #D6BD77 as my light colour
3. Open my flower lace template - shift D to copy then close the original - delete the background layer. Select all, float and defloat, then flood fill with a gradient made from your 2 colours - these are the settings I used. Deselect and minimize
4. Add a raster layer, then flood fill with your gradient. Apply my double mask 1 mask with source luminance, fit to canvas and show all mask selected - then go to selections>from mask. Then delete your mask layer and merge the mask group. With your mask still selected duplicate the layer, then on your layer palette close the visibility of your graphic layer and merge visible. Deselect
5. Apply the following drop shadow, then repeat with minus values
6. Add a symmetrical border of 2 to your graphic - choose a colour not in your image. Select with your magic wand and flood fill with your light background colour, then apply the following inner bevel. Do not deselect
7. Invert your selection and apply the following cutout, then deselect
8. Add a symmetrical border of 22, click with your magic wand and flood fill with your gradient - do not deselect - add a raster layer and flood fill with your gradient again, then defloat and mirror. Do not deselect
9. Apply my double mask 2 mask with these settings. Do not deselect
10. Again go to selections>from mask, then delete your mask layer and merge the mask group. Apply the same drop shadows (+ and -) we did before then deselect
11. Select all, then modify>contract by 22, then invert and apply the same inner bevel we have been using, do not deselect
12. Invert your selection then apply the same drop shadows (+ and -) we have been using. Deselect
13. Add a symmetrical border of 2, click with your magic wand and flood fill with your light colour, then apply the same inner bevel we have been using, invert your selection and apply the following cutout, repeat with minus values then deselect
14. Add a symmetrical border of 33, click with your magic wand and flood fill with your gradient. Add a raster layer and flood fill with the lace we recoloured earlier. Merge your layers, but do not deselect
15. Apply the same inner bevel we have been using, then invert your selection and apply the same drop shadows (+ and -) we have been using. Deselect
16. Add a symmetrical border of 2, click with your magic wand and flood fill with your light colour, then apply the same inner bevel invert and drop shadows (+ and -) we have been using. Deselect and we're all done!
