This is what we will be making
To complete this tutorial you will need:
FM Paint Engine - get it here
Simple Filters - get it here
The eBook of this tutorial and all other supplies are here
OK - lets get started
1. Open your image, press control D to duplicate then close your original. Duplicate your image again. Minimize one copy, then use the other to make a seamless tile.
2. Decide whether you are going to make a seamless tile of your entire image or just a portion of it (I used part of her wings). Apply FM Paint Engine with the settings I provided - or use the screenshot below, sharpen your tile then minimize it on your desktop.
3. Working on your other copy, add a raster layer and flood fill it with your gradient using these settings
4. Apply the mask I supplied (Mark2) using the settings below
5. Go to selections>from mask, then delete your mask layer and merge the group. Do not deselect
6. Apply the following inner bevel - do not deselect
7. Apply the following drop shadow - repeat with minus values, sharpen then deselect and merge all
8. Add a symmetrical border of 10 (a colour not in your image), click with your magic wand, then flood fill with black then your gradient (this is a transparent gradient and needs the black at this stage). Apply the same inner bevel we used before, then deselect
9. Add a symmetrical border of 10, click with your magic wand and flood fill with black - while still selected add another raster layer and apply the following weave settings. Merge visible, but do not deselect
10. Apply a drop shadow with the settings we used before, repeat with minus values. Deselect. Repeat step 8 (add border x10, flood with black, flood with gradient, apply inner bevel)
11. Add a symmetrical border of 30, click with your magic wand and flood fill with the tile we minimized. Do not deselect, add a raster layer (call it mask) and flood fill with your gradient. While still selected apply the same mask we did before, select from mask again, delete, merge group, apply bevel then deselect
12. Turn off the visibility on your mask layer. Select all, then modify>contract by 30, then invert your selection. Add a raster layer, then apply the following cutout. Add another raster layer and apply the same cutout with minus values, then merge visible. Don't deselect
13. Apply simple diamonds, and sharpen but don't deselect. Promote your selection to a layer, and make your background layer your active layer. Apply gaussian blur with a radius of 5. Make your top layer (NOT your mask layer) your active layer, then change your blend mode to dissolve. Merge visible, but don't deselect.
14. Turn the visibility of your Mask layer back on and make this your active layer, change your blend mode to colour then apply gaussian blur again, merge visible but do not deselect
15. Apply the same drop shadows - plus and minus that we used before. Deselect and merge all
16. Repeat steps 8, 9 and 10 and we're all done!
